It doesn't matter who the Metrolink engineer was texting with.Thinking of fatal accidents and collisions up and down the east coast, I know of five different incidents where the engineer/operator is known to be on the phone or texting at the time of the incident. In every case, the communications was with friends/girlfriends/family. And in every single case, the authority/rulemakers had banned using cellphones or text messaging from inside the cab. Don't know what to do about it. Make more rules when the rules obviously aren't working? Everybody sees train and bus operators yakking away while driving. Even if they've got a private control cab you can hear them through the partition. |
