I've been meaning to ask this about MP54's for some time now. And R33/36 reminded me of it. Its the sounds.
We often visited my Dad's uncle in Copiague. His place had the tacks - then at grade level- right in the back yard. Yes, the motors groaned like an R1/9 for example, but i guess that makes sense that the technology at the time included pinion gears and not spiral cut ones.
But, a more distant memory for me was the whistle. It was not like a diesel whistle, nor was it like the subsequent M1 whistle. Does anyone recall? What other equipment had that sort of sound. If I had to say it resembled another whistle, I'd say it was like a steam locomotive....but different...
