The memories I mentioned in Copaigue go back to when I was about 5 or 10, so 1956 - 1960 ish. But, As a grad student I began commuting on the LIRR in 1972 - Framingdale or Massapequa to NYP. At that time - and for about a year or so after that - they were still running non M1's MU's from NYP or Flatbush to the W. Hempstead branch, the latter still, presumably, having low platforms. So, I would arrange my schedule to get an old train (grey and that orrange color scheme) between NYP and Jamaica. But, that didn't last long. I loved riding with opeanable windows....
