Assistant Conductor with LIRR is, I think, a very lucrative opportunity, if one's at peace with the customer interaction, and especially at the start, probably very odd hours and job locations. For someone just finishing up school, though, it's a pretty good opportunity for a fairly secure position, if you can get hired. The unpaid training is a downer, but after that, from what I've heard, the pay scale is pretty good, although as I said, hours and locations of one's preference will either occur in the early years either by good luck or lots of people ahead of you taking early retirement. |
