The only reason the R-62s and 68s had stainless steel interiors was because of the graffiti problem that was rampant at the time. Even the GOH R-42s got bare stainless steel interiors for that same reason. Now that the initial graffiti problem seems to have abated (unfortunately only to be replaced by scratchiti) a more pleasant blue interior has replaced the "greasy spoon diner" appearance of the earlier generation of rolling stock.
