Although it would make more sense to build the Manhattan link (via a tunnel connecting the QMT and Lincoln tunnels) and just rename the entire thing I-395.I-495 has been a fixture in the NYC Metro area that it really doesn't make sense at this point to change it so it can stay follow the numbering rules. As for connecting I-495 back to I-95, I'd rather see new tunnels built to bypass the Queens Midtown and Lincoln Tunnels with no Manhattan access. I would suggest starting it from the BQE/LIE interchange to some point along the New Jersey Turnpike. |
