The goal is to have relatively uncrowded trains to stop at Roosevelt Island during the rush hour. If trains ran all the way to 179th, they'd just want to start them there, which wouldn't solve the problem since by the time they reach R.I., they'd be crowded like the F trains.I prefer option 2 though. Those who use the R to get to 5th Av or Lex/60 from between Continental and 36th/Northern would then be more likely to take the V, either for its stations 7 blocks south, or to take the R at Queens Plaza. For other Broadway Line stations, they still have the Q, and can transfer at an express station for the R or W. |
