In 1982, you:

- Expected every train you rode to be covered in grafitti.

- Expected to sweat in the summer, even if your train had A/C units.

- Expected at least one major breakdown, track fire or derailment to screw up your commute.

- NEVER rode the subway at night.

- Never saw a police officer on a train.

- Had no hope of it ever getting better.
