R-44s were tested on the LIRR, and IIRC there *were* problems with voltage differences.LIRR *used* to be 600v DC, but was upped to 750 when the M1s needed more power. DC traction motors are forgiving beasts, and can run on many different voltages without problems, but trying to run them to the max on a higher voltage seems to have been a problem. Maybe someone who had *truth* may tell the story better than I. ROAR |
