There was one time some years ago when LIRR trains were unable to use the tunnels to Manhattan. I think they were Amtrak tunnels. I'll be corrected if I'm wrong. Customers going to Manhattan were advised to detrain at Richmond Hill to catch the J train at 121 Street. LIRR officials were afraid LIC, Woodside, Jamaica and Hunter's Point stations were going to be overcrowded with commuters.Service along the line going to be beefed up for rush hour traffic. Richmond Hill station was meant for Manhattan bound customers to get to Manhattan. Not to give customers LIRR service to LIC. |
