But the twin towers stood empty for 10 years before filling up.Not relevant to September 10 2001. Less square footage means the available space fits market conditions better. It means landlords are more likely to get higher rents, which means their return on investment will be higher. Equal sum gains for one party don’t work in this equation for all parties involved. Rents may end up being higher for less square footage, but that doesn’t change the fact that the lower available square footage will result in fewer people working, visiting and doing business in the area resulting in less revenue generated.
