You can't speak for most railbuffs, and you don't know who reads these posts. Non-railbuffs have been known to read this and the old Subtalk. Defining terms is a point of courtesy to them (and everyone else).

A pontoon bridge was among the army's best friends in WWII. Essentially a floating bridge with pontoons holding up the dynamic load. They are used in civilian life too. Most often they are temporary bridges, to be replaced with something more permanent later.
