If the LA Times account is accurate, there is often "intelligence" from workers where the containers are handled in the portsand or warehouses. Not all of those workers are indocumentados. I am reminded of stories from the 70s-80s of trailers/containers already on wheels were being driven away from railyards in NJ by drivers who had been told exactly which ones to take. That level of organization requires "insiders" who are not recent arrivals. No justification here--just pointing out wide ranging corruption involved.For perspective, photos of containers of computer hardwar being shipped by rail from factories in Chengdu for distribution in Germany, Holland, and Spain, showed armed guards on board. |
