This is the Fort George Hill on the east side of the tip of Manhattan. Throughout the change in topography, the IRT tracks remain level. The stonework above the entrance says: Fort George 1776 1905 The A train, which runs under the similar Fort Washington Hill on the west side, does not maintain a level grade, and instead of bursting through the side of the hill like the #1, remains underground at Dyckman St. |
