Its "commuter" territory on the Montauk branch ended at Speonk "Also allows the LIRR to concentrate its diesel fleet on commuter trains like Port Jeff" That was tried a few years back by leasing MARC cars for PT Jeff service & sending all those bi levels to Montauk in the summer. That didn't sit very well with the PJ line riders and was never repeated. After that experiment, I thought they'd be a groundswell of howling commuters demanding 3d rail to PJ. Apparently that never happened. |
