Re: Horace Harding Subway - Queens Blvd Expressway

Even though the express lanes (and underpasses under Woodhaven and Horace Harding Boulevards) were constructed about four years after the subway, it appears that the subway station there was built with that future roadway configuration in mind.

The mezzanine is not under either cross street, as is usual, but instead begins over 100' east of Woodhaven Blvd, and ends before Horace Harding. The mezzanine is located where the lower roadway rises between the two underpasses.

Because the mezzanine is not at either cross street, the exits to the street are not at the corners. On the north side of Queens Blvd, the Woodhaven exit is in the middle of the block, and the Horace Harding exit is before the highway. On the south side, the Woodhaven exits are down long passages, with one exit on the east side of Woodhaven, and the other further down the passage to the west side. The Horace Harding exit has been abandoned and covered over.
