The IND Queens Line is extended one stop from 169th St to a new terminal at 179th St

179 St had a beautiful purple stripe on the wall when built:




After the trunk-line map was introduced in 1979, the stripe was covered over with intertwining blue and orange stripes, to show that the station was served by both 6 Av and 8 Av service:





There are still some vestiges of purple left:
