The Broad Channel picture shows the R-10 with about seven years worth of accumulated steel dust, as the transit system did not get to have the chance in cleaning and washing the car fleet until the first actual subway car wash was installed at 207th Street in 1960.

The actual exterior paint schemes on the R-10's over the years were...
1. Two-tone grey with dual orange stripes.
2. Solid tartar red (on nine cars only in 1962)
3. Teal blue and white with center stripe motif.
4. Teal blue and white with no center stripe motif.
5. Platinum silver with dark blue stripe.
6. Dark green with silver roof (on 110 WH cars only).

Not included here is the yellow work train scheme that was briefly applied on some cars during the 1980's, such as I recall on #3087, #3092, #3315 and #3324, although a few of that group (GE cars) would be repainted back into scheme #5 as listed above.
