The original line up the west side of Manhattan and up the Hudson was the Hudson River Railroad. Cornelius Vanderbilt acquired it, and the original New York Central, which was an east-west line from Albany to (I think) Buffalo, and they were combined as the New York Central and Hudson River.That name survived into the early 20th century, when it became simply New York Central. |
