Posted by Express Rider on Fri Mar 22 19:39:29 2019, in response to [PHOTOS] SIRT Abandoned South Beach Branch, posted by Bill Newkirk on Fri Mar 22 16:47:49 2019. Thank you for posting these excellent photos!!Sad to see, but a necessary historical record. And thanks for the link - I've been to that site over the years, it's a good one. The Silver Leaf SIRT book has black and white photos from the early 1960s of part of this route. Your photos reminded me/made me think of the abandoned/never finished Northern Heights Routes in London; the former GNR route through Crouch End, Muswell Hill, Cranley gardens etc. is now a public footpath - with overgrown platform remains at the former Crouch End station. The line from Mill Hill East to Edgware apparently is walkable, but not much left of any Northern Line extension work, and the proposed route north of Edgware, is almost all built over with housing - only the partial arch structures for one of the stations remains. |
