Posted by Dave on Thu Jul 13 07:27:58 2017, in response to HISTORY OF - ex-NY EL forney Locos found in Alaska, posted by JOE @ NYCMTS - NYCTMG on Wed Jul 12 23:14:24 2017. Fascinating! Thanks for this, Joe!In the same vein of abandoned Alaska steam locos, the White Pass & Yukon worked its steamers to death in WWII. Converted from standard gauge, at war's end they were too worn out and it was too expensive to ship them back to the mainland, so they were tossed over the side, in some cases, to be used as fill under the roadbed. |
