What subway contractor would excavate more tunnel than what their contract called for? Reality check! The Pitkin Ave extension, including the partial 76th St shell, was abandoned when the engineers found a costly high water table problem and decided not to continue. So, they connected Euclid Ave to the Liberty Ave el and later ran the Rockaway spur off of it. |
