The coefficient of static friction is greater than the coefficient of kinetic friction.If you put a block on a board and tilt the board just to the point where the block starts to slide the block will continue to slide if you lower the board a little bit. A rolling wheel is static with respect to the rail. If the wheel starts to slide kinetic friction applies and the braking force decreases. |
