I decided to sneak into the Transit Museum during lunch time to catch a glimpse of these cars. Here are R36WF cars 9586 and 9587, which made their debut midway this week.

A brief history - These cars in particular are special for two reasons: this pair was one of the first R36WF cars to be overhauled and then painted in the red paint scheme we know today as the Redbirds back in 1984. This pair then became cars #11 and cars #10, respectively on the last Redbird run on the (7) line, which took place on November 3, 2003.

The cars spent a great amount of time at Unionport Yard in the Bronx shortly afterwards, being used on a number of occasions as part of the Rail Adhesion Train in the fall.

They were given a repaint in 2008 from the Coney Island Yard Shops, which overtime, the paint used faded and turned the cars into some weird light pink / orange color. Since about 2011 or so, the cars were then placed in storage.

In July 2013, the pair was transferred to Concourse Yard, joining R26 cars 7774-7775, R28s 7924-7925, and R29s 8678-8679. This pair was hooked to the R26 pair for a while. In September of that year, 9586-9587 were transferred to 207th Street Yard, moved by the TOMC R33ML cars. Over the next months, the cars received body work and another repaint, all which was completed just last month.

And here we are to today. The cars sit where the R33WF car, 9306, sat previously. Enough blabbering, now the photos:

Here's where it gets interesting. One of the end storm doors on csar 9586 has some of the interior bright orange paint exposed. But even more interesting, you can see what is the original blue paint scheme it had when delivered.

Now back out onto the platform

And finally, the people responsible for building these great cars.

Hope you have enjoyed! Thank you for viewing!
