Unfortunately Engineers doze off more then we like to say. I've been a engineer 19+ years first with CSX and now Amtrak. Especially working in freight pool service or my early years at Amtrak on the xtra board. And that fra 8 hours between shifts is nonsense, by time u get home and get sleep ur lucky to get 3 or 4 good hours of sleep.Its possible to fall asleep with your eyes open. Anyone who has driven at night in rain or fog knows that you can become almost hypnotized by the road. I wonder where this story is coming from since it wasn't released by the NTSB.
