That still may not have been enough if he was in deep sleep or if it was intentional. Remember the train crash of Amagasaki some years back. That line had a similar system without automatic train control (Automatic Train Protection in the US, or Positive Train Control, handling not just BIEs but speed control.Oh now they are saying on NY1 that he fell asleep, heard the warning and applied the BIE, but it was too late. We might see full ATP/PTC in the region sooner than the mandate. |
