It's not the physics, it's being careful of reasoning fallacies and assumptions when applying it. If the absolute braking capacity limit is 25mph then while a 12.5mph train has 100% speed reserve, a 22.5mph train is 10% away from disaster. After I took my college physics I spent 35 years in engineering learning how to apply it prudently. One of the lessons is that it is a formula for trouble to assume that something can always do a "little bit more".Bill |
