R39's and Myrtle El Speculations Re: Metropolitan/Myrtle el |

Would be awesome to have those Lions (Myrt and Third) running again today.Yes, it is quite a shame. I would have been a daily user of those R39's on the Myrt back in the late 90's and early 90's. I presume they would have looked like miniture IRT-like R38's. The stations on the Myrtle would have been redone by now, and would probably look something like the J's stations between Alabama and Crescent. Wouldn't that have been cool....Miniture R38's (GOHed by now) running on an el that looks something like the Fulton St portion of the J. I wonder what letter it would have gotten, as the route was the MJ, and the M and J would be used for their current lines. I also think that by now, what is currently the "M line" to Manhattan would have been downgraded to a rush hour only service like it used to be, and the Myrtle El route would be the 24-7 route. I wonder how they would have handled the gap at stations like Central, Knickerbocker, Wyckoff, Seneca, Forest, etc where both skinny and regular sized trains would be running. In today's lawsuit-driven climate, I don't know if they could have done it like they used to when the wooden cars ran with the steal cars at those stations. Perhaps the Myrtle El would have been downgraded to a Jay street to Broadway Shuttle, with a transfer downstairs to continue north, or go to Manhattan. |
