The interesting thing in that first photo is that the switch point grabs the inside of the wheel flange and pulls that wheel laterally so the wheel at the opposite end of the axle is directed onto the proper diverging rail. In a conventional railroad switch there would be a second switch point on the left rail which would push the outside of the flange to direct the wheel and axle onto the diverging track. |
