The main perp was harassing a Jewish passenger and somehow got into a verbal confrontation and when the passenger took his picture with his phone, grabbed the phone to delete the picture (at least according to the Daily News article) and then the passenger got the attention of the conductor and the police arrived to arrest the perp, a self proclaimed Muslim.

And then out came all the phones and the results you saw by the animals.
