I rode R1 100 in regular rush-hour service but after it had been cleaned up, shined up, and given the M designation.It was during summer jobs in Manhattan during college, which would place it some time between 1972 and 1975, and I was commuting from Avenue J to Rockefeller Center on the Brighton Line. There is no doubt in my mind about this date range. I had always assumed that it had been designated for the museum but had to be reactivated in rush hour because of an equipment shortage, but I don't know that for a fact. |
