1997 Canadian Rail Passenger Review No.1 has a story on the HEP-2 program. One of the pictures shows a gutted car shell on jacks, stripped and cleaned ready for its new interior, it doesn’t even have windows or any underbody equipment. If it wasn’t for a touch of pressure wash rust on the drawbar hanger you’d think the shot was at Red Lion, Pointe St Charles’s paint and tarnish removal was that thorough. The shot also puts a feather in Budd’s cap that under any paint and dirt, their stainless still looks brand new after 50 years.

I assume you already know that VIA HEP-1 8140 was Amtrak 5420, nee RF&P 801.
