LACMTA to rename lines soon and various other Los Angeles info |

Posted by Easy on Wed Jul 25 21:54:12 2012 Because both the new Expo line and the Blue line are shades of blue Metro decided to help distinguish which line is which by adding an "E" for Expo to the Expo bullet. Click on the photo below for more photos.I went to a Transit Coalition meeting yesterday at Metro headquarters that had Metro's Bruce Shelburne (Scheduling/Service) as the featured speaker. He said that Metro will soon be renaming all of the lines and replacing the names with colors. He also said that despite the new "E" bullet, that the lines would likely be named A,B,C,D,...in order of when the lines opened. Interestingly, he thinks that 24-hour train service in the not too distant future is a possibility. It would be 20-30 minutes late night depending on the line because given the limited number of crossovers, that's all that the lines can run with one track closed for maintenance. When completed the purple line extension will run 15 tph peak service and the red line will have the same headway, which means 30 tph on the trunk. He thinks that the purple line will be the busiest rapid transit line in the US outside of NYC and worries that 15 tph will be insufficient to meet demand. Unfortunately that will be the max that can ever be run on that line. I already posted last week that trains on all lines will run later on Friday and Saturday. That starts in two days. Schedule adjustments planned for the next few months include running the gold line every 10 minutes until close (to match the blue/red/purple lines) and running more trains on weekends on all lines. Currently the standard on weekends is 5 tph. The new standard will be 8 tph. |
