The BMT/IND cars have a slight curved side which enhances the appearance of a railcar. Despite, the close clearances, IRT NTTs could have had a slight curve by curving the car body slightly INWARD above the belt line of the car. The original IRT Composites were built that way so it definitely would work and would have made for a better looking car.
