Disused? Well put. They just walked away from it. Ran trains one day & did'nt the next. Left everything there. AFAIK at the time of the "disusement" (Check Webster here!) not a stick of rail was picked up. 3d rail juice was shut off & on with the rust.
At least Penn Central, as broke as they were, when they abandoned something, they ripped up the rail. Took some time in many cases but it got done

BTW heres whats gonna happen to the Rockaway line ROW...nothing.
