I dunno ... looked at the photo from DJ and it doesn't work for me. I spent a lot of time between those puppies and I remember the top and bottoms being rather straight with the hand/knee grab welded on the top. So went and looked and I still don't buy it ... Maybe the bars, but definitely not the "swingy parts" ... the scissors part maybe ...

Obviously, the entire "arnine" pantograpg gate could not have been used. The scissors part of the gate and the long verticle plate with the rounded ends should be the original "arnine" pantograph gate.

The two horizontal arms are not original, the top one more angular to compensate for the low R-40/42 windshield and route sign windows.

I seen these gates in person and it looks like the new arms were added to the pantograph gate. They look welded. It doesn't look original. I wouldn't be surpised if Coney Island or 207th St shops thought of a way to retrofit the R-40/42s with these gates, saving money.

The best evidence of this is to find any photos of piled up "arnines" being scrapped and see if their pantograph gates are missing.

Ahh...that's it !
