Anything else you want to bring up? If not, thanks for playing. |

No, I read it. You don't seem to understand how in the Middle East, what isn't said is usually as important if not more important than what is. The fact that they are moving everything out and not to their new location within Cairo (wherever that is) seems notable to me. If you don't think that the Israelis might have been up to something else while doing this, you are very naive. |

If the Israelis wanted to leave the country they would've had their Justification then and there. Just because they moved documents and equipment (not personnel). Ever heard of duplicate documents? These days things aren't written in stone, and perhaps Israel didn't want them in the wrong hands?Sometimes things are very simple, but people make them un-necessarily complicated. When Israel starts returning their embassy staff back to Israel something is happening and I was see that as sign of that they'r going to attack Iran and are trying to protect their people from possible anger in response. |

Hate to break it to but you are no diplomat. Conventional wisdom is that an Israeli attack on Iran will be preceded by no talk of attack from Israel publicly and an appearance that everything is business as usual. In fact, when Israel makes the most noise about Iran, it is assumed that is when it is less likely to launch an attack. They've downsized the embassy since it was attacked and if Israel and Egypt didn't already have a cold peace, it is extremely cold now. The fact it is still there could be mostly show for all you or I know, things in the Middle East are often not as they seem. |

And I was able to easily dismiss your explanation based solely on what the article says and not some speculative ideas that you THINK you have which is why its a waste of time. You even put "flies staff" which in the article didn't even say. So even your title is misleading. If you wanted us to take your post seriously bring us an article of substance, because when you post articles like these it just opens you up to criticism which sadly you take poorly. |

I used the same title the Washington Post had on their website. You have no business making these sorts of comments about what I post. You didn't easily dismiss anything that I wrote because you can't possibly know more definitively than I do about what is going on with this particular situation, and I've already stated I'm not claiming to know anything, just these are my suspicions and views on the topic based on what I know as a result of living here and listening to Israeli news reports every hour on the radio and reading the newspaper. The staff there is significantly smaller than it was before the embassy attack in September. If you read the article, as you claim to have done, you'll notice there are a lot of anonymous quotations because people weren't authorized to speak or no comments in response to reporters' inquiries. I posted my feelings, I've said I consider yours to be very naive but you are certainly entitled to them. OTOH, you frequently make asinine comparisons both on OTChat and Subchat (and also did so back on SubTalk in those days) that aren't based on any sort of fact. Unfortunately for you and most of Subchat/OTChat, the world doesn't revolve around the United States and in turn, New York City. Hopefully you'll realize that before it is too late. |

You're still holding grudges about my criticisms of WMATA going berserk when a snowflake touches the ground? But the fact remains that they closed a location that's not been active for 6 months. Also I have access to the same news services and reports that you do, its not difficult in this age of the internet so you're not hearing or reading anything that I cannot. Anonymous quotations are what you want to make of them, but hearing from the ambassador is worth more than an anonymous source. Unless you think the anonymous source is better than the ambassador... you choose an article, a poor one at that and I criticize you for it. You choose an anonymous source for a "fact" then have the balls to chastise me. Then you take your fears about the egyptian revolution because of your fear as an Israeli of being surrounded by nations that hate you. When facts show that in the condition Egypt is in, they can't do a thing to Israel, paranoia on your behalf. |

I'm not holding a grudge, your asinine criticisms of WMATA are one of many examples of poor reasoning used to reach ridiculous conclusions. Your denial of facts once presented to you just compounds the issue. It is what it is, only you can change the situation. Respond to that without the help of a translator and then I'll be convinced you have the same access to news and information that I do. I already explained to you how the anonymous source can counteract the ambassador claiming business as usual. My "paranoia" about being surrounded by nations that hate me is anything but. Are you in favor of the Forest Glen policy of Israelis leaving the Middle East as a way to bring peace? If you think that the problems gripping Egypt's economy right now are going to prevent a breach of the peace treaty with Israel, think again. Breaking the peace treaty with Israel would be a great way for whoever gets elected to run the country next to rally everyone around a common cause if domestic policy fails. Sinai, which is the buffer between Israel and "mainland Egypt" is lawless and getting worse by the day. You still think I don't have reason to worry about what is going on in Egypt, or should I go on? |

I don't think so and no I do not believe in the Forest Glen policy. I believe in a middle east where Syria, Lebanon, Epypt,Iran are all strong Democracies with strong education systems which people are allowed to express their individuality. If it works in places like Indonesia it can work in the middle east. Egypt is in no position to fight Israel and any leader that tried to rally support would only get a temporary solution because Israel is a foreign problem and from the way it looks... Domestic Issues might be a more pressing issue. Jobs... wages... education... Israel would be a distraction but not a long term one. |

Domestic Issues might be a more pressing issue. Jobs... wages... education... Israel would be a distraction but not a long term one. Politicians generally like to keep their jobs. A temporary boost to popularity might be worthwhile depending on the circumstances. And if you think Israel can't be made into a long term distraction, you really don't pay attention to what goes on in the Middle East. So you're saying that Egypt would attack, and risk a provocation that could potentially destroy their military and damage infrastructure which would further plunge their already weakened economy even further? It isn't out of the realm of possibility. You realize Assad organized a group of people to breach the Syrian-Israeli border in an attempt to divert attention from the atrocities his regime continues to carry out? But I like the fact that you support Oppressive Regiems then as long as their Pro-Israel, makes me realize you've forgotten your history... when jews were oppressed. The last thing anyone from israel would want is to see a people oppressed. But I guess you want to sleep soundly at night secure than have the moral high ground you think you have. Please find the post(s) where I maintain that position. I think I've been pretty consistent since the revolution happened in terms of where I stand, but since you seem to be unable to understand where that is, I'll try to explain it to you again. Obviously the Egyptian people were oppressed by Mubarak, but who is to say the next leader who comes along is going to be better, even if that person or group is elected democratically? The Egyptian people certainly have a right to choose their own leadership, but in case you forgot, the army and Muslim Brotherhood both said they had no interest in ruling the country, but that is no longer the case, and the army in particular doesn't seem so interested in executing the electoral process. That wouldn't be a very successful revolution, would it? The jury ought to remain out on whether the Egyptian Revolution was a good thing for the Egyptian people, the rest of the Middle East, and the US's own policy interests. Let's wait and see what happens first before passing judgment on the situation. And this doesn't only go for Egypt, but also matters such as the Iraq war and the entire Bush and Obama presidencies. It is just way too early to tell. As for my perspective as someone living in Israel, the Israeli government wanted Mubarak to stay around because he was a known quantity, the same way it also wouldn't mind if Assad stayed in Syria. The next leader might be better for Israel's interests, but could also be worse. As I said, the Egyptians ought not to be oppressed by their government and have a right to choose their own leadership. But I'm not exactly in favor of a situation that could lead to a war on Israel's southern front, and the situation I described isn't paranoid, it is the truth. Get it now? All I'm saying is be careful what you wish for... |

It's going to take years for the Egyptian revolution to show results, whether its negative or positive will be the question but when you make posts like these, you seem to be pushing an opinion on a revolution and a country still at a time of metamorphosis.Israel nor the US can proclaim to support democracy and freedom when they show support for people like Mubarek and or Assad for the sake of security. The Islamists or Terrorists can exploit these things and rally support for their cause. Nothing in life worth having is easy to have, sometimes you have to think radically and try a new approach, perhaps here things can change, but we won't know for a long time, however to knock this revolution down one way or another is just pure ignorance. |

One interesting thing I've been hearing about Egypt, despite the propaganda, is that they've told Hamas to go suck an egg. Now Hamas has to buy their fuel and power from Israel in Gaza. There was an article about it in Global Post the other day. |

Just read today in the times (or BBC forgot which) which said that the brotherhood has asked that Hames work with the Fatah movement for a united movement on the issue of Palestine and to hold back on their attacks. I guess they don't want to be accused off the bat of supporting terrorist and risk using angering Israel or losing US funding. Either way we'll see what happens in June when the military hands over power. |

It would appear that perhaps Egypt isn't quite as insane as we're getting told. There are some real issues for them to work on for their own people ... perhaps some are considering that. That's what the kids who rebelled want them to be doing ... |

Why is that "the surprise" . . . ? If Israel had done it sooner, then the world would have put the onus on Israel for being the aggressor that broke diplomatic relations first. (Not that some won't try anyway.) |
