Seriously though, in most circumstances, children do "follow by example", and follow in their parents footsteps when it comes to political views, although that is not as clear cut as "following their parent's religion" is.

Would that my children followed my lead on things political. But we raised them to think for themselves, and as a result I've got one whose arsenal rivals the Federal government's, one who can best be described compassionate conservative, one whose views are almost as liberal as BIE's, and one who, like me, believes that the most appropriate vote is the one cast against whoever is in office at the moment :-)

Until next time...

Is there any reason someone who can work independently for a day shouldn't be allowed to telecommute?

And, again, if there were no assumption to begin with that virtually all businesses are closed on Christmas, then a lot more people would be glad to save their vacation/personal/floating days for later.

What's the proper translation, then of "commandment" in these verses? :—

"And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments." (Exodus 34:28)

"And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone" (Deuteronomy 4:13)

"And he wrote on the tables, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which the LORD spake unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and the LORD gave them unto me" (Deuteronomy 10:4)

The word in all three of your examples is 'dvarim' - from the root DBR, meaning 'to speak.' (Later rabbinic literature uses the word 'dibrot' instead, from the same root.) It means 'statements' or 'words.'

The word for 'commandments' is 'mitzvot' - from the root TzVH, meaning 'to command.'

Exodus 34
Deuteronomy 4
Deuteronomy 10

Still haven't taken my advice to learn Hebrew before attempting to argue about the language in the Jewish Bible, I see.
