Posted by rbseabeach on Thu Mar 4 12:43:01 2010 For some reason all of these polls have issues that have resulted in scandal or inability to effectively perfor thheir functions. Now obvioulsy there are white politicians that have serious issues as well, Hevesi, Spitzer, Vallela, Bruno, and on and on.I just want to know if these black polls were not really qualified for their offices and were elected or appointed anyway to increase diversity or are they unfairly being targetted because of their race? It appears that they tend to blame racism when they get into hot water but I want to know if they were honestly the best qualified from the beginning. There is also Diane Gordon the ENY Assemblywoman that is in jail. Patterson must be the biggest fool of all, he has bright experienced people at his disposal, he has his own father and he has allowed himself to fall from grace so quickly? he has tarnished the family name that his poor dad worked so hard to leave a legacy. |

Now there are a million guys running in the 1988 democratic primary to unseat koch. koch was gaining in the polls and then Bensonhurst happened. Dinkins the only black guy in the race went on to win. Then in the general election every time Rudy tried to come down aggressively about his poor qualifications, he was called a racist, facist, etc. Dinkins then wins in a squeeker. He goes on to be the worst mayor in NYC history. |

Come on? What were the qualifications of this guy Johnson? The guy even had a criminal record. Now Patterson makes him his right hand man which led to this fiasco. How sad that Patterson who comes from a politically connected family, has a disability and became governor has fallen from grace because of an unknown named Darryl Johnson. |

Can't answer that, I'm not a NASCAR member. :)I vaguely knew Dinkins years ago when I worked on rebuilding WBLS and the Apollo, and got to meet the rest of the crew back then. Dave Dinkins *is* (and was) a very capable, very intelligent, and very honest man. As a sub-sub-subcontractor, they didn't have to give me the time of day and yet they were all very nice, very helpful and even got me more gigs. As to the race card, I guess whites don't find themselves at a disadvantage just because of their looks. And let's be real here - there was plenty of racism after Dinkins, and we see it again with Obama throughout the campaign as well as the reactions to his policies. So I'd have to agree that there is racism, and plenty of it. And just because some folks don't want to be reminded of it, we hear all this "race card" nonsense. But calling "anti-semitism" isn't a problem. I'm not too happy with Obama myself, but I can complain strictly on policy in that sometimes a politico has to show some balls. So I s'pose it all comes down to what individual people's motivations are for their complaints. We have NOT achieved "post-racial" yet although I'd hoped, as have many, that "Obama in the house" would have finally gotten us there AND had us doing that long neglected "discussion" ... I suppose that'd require more beer than this nation can afford tho'. :) |

Now HERE you have a good argument. Back when I was in the Bronx, I ran a company called "ASR: Avalanche Sound Research." We made large speakers for musicians, audio mixers and radio broadcast equipment. All of it built in the Bronx. When I needed people for manufacturing, I went to the state labor department for employees. I got sent many ex-convicts and, thanks to a program in effect at the time, I got a subsidy for hiring and training them. Went for it.Sure I had some turnover, sure some stuff went missing, but the rest of the guys I hired were VERY good at building electronics and cabinets. They out-performed NON-convicts because they had the motivation to NOT want to get in trouble and straighten their shit out. And I wasn't intimidated by them since I took no shit, so it was all good. Point here is that just because someone screwed up in their earlier days doesn't mean they're a lifetime screwup. Sometimes, all they need is a fair shot and they'll take care of business all by themselves. Apparently Dave has known this guy for a VERY long time and he had managed to fly straight for a very long time. And you definitely don't want Dave driving for obvious reasons. So Dave hired him up as his driver when he was in the Senate and Johnson was OK. And since they knew each other for a very long time and knew each other inside out, I'm sure Dave figured this guy would do very well as his go-to guy. Unfortunately, looks like Johnson's head swelled as a result of his new duties with Dave and got full of himself when he was away from Dave. I'm sure you've had friends of yours, just like I have, who have done some strange shit that gets back to you and you found it difficult to believe that they were even capable of doing it, much less did. I've said before any of this happened in knowing Dave for a very long time that he's a really good guy, perhaps TOO good, and probably didn't believe what he was being told. I have to blame Dave since anyone from the city should know that they should personally check out stories of other people's sidewalk acts and sadly Dave apparently didn't. And look at the price he's paying for this now. The whole way this went down tells me that Dave didn't believe it at first, then went to check it out, and screwed up royally doing so. That's how I see it though ... never met Johnson, but have worked around Dave for many years ... damned sad ... :( |

I used to listen to BLS. I remember Vaugn Harper, (THere I go There I go...)Frankie Crocker... Remember then way the way they would always end their show with that cool MFSB (Love is the message jam?) I especially liked when they used to say, "WBLS NEW YORK where you here" adn they would play clips from the latest hot R&B & Soul tunes. I also liked the W B L S in each of the 4 car speakers. It was a big deal to have 4 speakers in a car back in the day. I even won a contest from BLS. By naming the artists on some songs, when I went down to 801 2nd Avenue??? I think that was the address they were pretty surprised to see what I looked like LOL! Not only brothas jammed to BLS back in the day. BTW.. IMHO, no one could mix it up like BLS. KISS tried and did well but NOTHING beat the original. And BTW as much as I despised Dinkin's policies, I would have to agree that he is a very decent guy. I was out at the Water Club two years ago having dinenr with my wife and he came in with his wife Joyce, I shook his hand and wished him a good evening. |

It's racial when they bring up "Wright" ... it's racial when they bring up "HUSSEIN" ... it's racial when they bring up "Dinkins" ... it's racial when they bring up "ACORN" ... or dozens of other buzzwords. If one has a problem with his policies, talk about the policies. Don't be bringing up buzzwords. Pretty simple, actually. And as to "supporters" I'm only responsible for my own thoughts. Obama is a President. Stick to issues of his Presidency, and doesn't matter what color he is ... that'd be a start for some people. But let's not be blind to the motivations of some ... it ain't about policy. If he parted the Nile, they'd still be bitching. |

Dinkins was an amazingly good guy. Like Governor Dave, shirt off his back kinda standup guy. Percy Sutton was a snake, but even he could be likeable at times. A really good crew all around and their kids came out very well too. Saddened me to no end to see Dinkins get stabbed, and here we go again. :(As to BLS, I was living upstate and commuting down to the city to take care of studios and concert halls at the time, so only got to actually listen to BLS fairly rarely. I was always a bit more of a WRVR kinda guy myself, but got to meet several of the staff down there. Didn't one of them end up opening MTV? I vaguely remember after all these years ... |

Thanks! I've seen this number before, and have found my own self in similar situations. What Dave did would probably be OK if he was still a nobody in the senate, but when you're the chief, it's a VERY bad move. Saddest part of it is that it would appear that you HAVE to be a total prick in order to be a "governator" and while Dave has the balls necessary when it comes down to it, it's not his style to kick ass first and then take names. :)Now I never worked FOR Dave, I was the chief engineer and builder of a TV network called NY-SCAN which covered the legislature and state government. In that capacity, had to cover many, many Senate hearings and when Dave was involved, he'd often stop by our equipment and crew and would shoot the shit with us along with many other political dignitaries as they waited for the hearings or testimony. We got to know many of these "dignitaries" over the years as we talked about everything from budgets to bird shit in the capitol. Heh. But the comparison is somewhat reasonable aside from the fact that Rudy *knew* that Kerik was a douchebag, but didn't care. I'm sure Dave was quite surprised when he first heard about Johnson's shens or they wouldn't have been permitted to happen in the first place. |

I worked in radio and television for many years as a reporter, anchorman and engineer. Because of that, I have a natural adversity to third party anything and don't believe anything I hear without PROFF. So it's personal policy not to listen to any talking neck gasbags, I can barely stand watching formal "prefessional" news without wanting to throw a brick at the screen. Not a big fan of modern "journalism" or "commentary." So no, I don't bother ... if I want (ahem) "news" ... Same here, particularly because I've had plenty of personal face time with Dave years ago and have ALWAYS liked him immensely. That makes this even harder for me to deal with emotionally because I *really* like Dave. The first governor I remember was Rockefeller. And truth be told, Dave is far more conservative than any Governor this state's had including Rockefeller. I don't know HOW far back we'd have to go to find a NY Governor more conservative than Dave. It's just all very sad indeed ... but that's what happens at the top - you have to respect the chain of command up there and he ended up getting completely isolated and sandbagged up there. Yes, it's his fault that he allowed that and this to have happened but his biggest fault perhaps was not anticipating the sheer degree of venom that awaited him when he took over. This whole Princess Caroline thing is what did him in, and his own party has been gunning for him ever since. Never mind the republicans piling on with their own intrigue. Well not so much "suck", as "didn't do anything". .....but of course reroute planes during the US Open.... it's racial when they bring up "ACORN" No, ACORN is a corrupt organization, and deserves to be brought up. Yes, they have been far and few between. But let's not be blind to the motivations of some ... it ain't about policy. And that's a two way street. There are many that will support him no matter what he does. You also have a lot of hypocrites that don't complain when Obama does the same thing "Bush" did, and they screamed their asses off when Bush did it, but not so much as a peep when Obama does the same thing. Many support him blindly just because he's a Democrat. |

Espada is a Democrat...As for Skelos, he is a Republican, but what happened with that minority/majority leader thing was because the Democrats didn't recognize him. The whole NY representatives can be thrown out as far as I am concerned, what a bunch of clowns. And I am in no way defending any of the crooks/criminals in Congress....both sides suck, but let's not forget who is the catfight party.... |

We're not talking about congress here ... we're talking about our OWN mess. And don't think for a minute that Skelos wasn't behind what happened in the Senate ... we know the score up here ... OUR newspapers followed it, play by play. |

Seems the white people aren't too qualified either. Ever wonder why NYC mayors NEVER go on to a higher office? After running NYC for four years, no mayor wants to aspire to anything higher being burned out. Bill Newkirk |

No, ACORN is a corrupt organization, and deserves to be brought up.That's not why it's brought up. There are plenty of corrupt organizations. We all know why THAT particular one is brought. Let's stop pretending otherwise. |
