In the last five or six weeks, we've seen two shootings in Brentwood, a fatal stabbing in Brentwood, a shooting in Huntington Station, and another fatal stabbing in Westbury. There was also a bias attack in Valley StreamYes, all areas that were "not so great" for many decades. Nothing new here, except for some reason you became obsessed. |

Not when you walk away from the train/ferry terminal. It turns into Riverhead fast. When the downtown area is deserted in the winter, it's hard to tell the difference. Of course, Riverhead itself is not as bad as many say it is. |

As I said, the area near downtown (which includes the area near the train/ferry terminal) is not that great....Greenport has some affluent areas...it's just not right there. As for Riverhead, again, near downtown, not so great....it's not nearly as bad as people say it is. It looks "run down" because it's a rural area that's not quite suburban yet...but in transition..... Most rural areas look "scraggy" to an extent....and it only shows when they try to become "suburban". |

I think you will find stabbings and shootings, drug deals, drunk driving cases, arson, murders, and much else everyday reading Newsday. But then again, you would have every day in Newsday for as long as it's been a paper. But that said....lookie here, at this quote of WHERE the muggers come from....Deer Park's neighbor, Wyandanch.....in fact, Wyandanch continues and takes over the number system from Deer Park's grid of streets. I don't think we need to go over that Wyandanch has been a crappy neighborhood for probably 40-50 years.... But two First Precinct officers, James Spoerel and James Ohagan, saw the two teens near the crime scene - and arrested them. Police identified the robbers as William Hart, 17, of 63 South 27th St., Wyandanch, and Trent Dargan, 17, of 48 South 20th St., Wyandanch. |

It's a nice working class area. It shares a street grid with Wyandanch, it's neighbor, which is not all that great. I have no problem with Deer Park at all, but it is a little too "suburban" for me. Cool site although it doesn't seem to work as well for my neighborhood and wants me to sign up to see the overall rank.Wyandanch doesn't seem to come off as too bad, although obviously it has problems based on the article. Long Island as a whole isn't all that bad crime wise comparing to other regions. Even some of the worst areas of Long Island (like Hempstead, Wyandanch, etc), still aren't as bad as "bad neighborhoods" in other regions. |
