My view on the Epstein suicide

Posted by Jeff Rosen on Wed Aug 14 13:29:25 2019

Epstein committed suicide. Period. The guards fell asleep.
Anyone in the NYPD who was ever a cell attendant will tell you it's common practice to just make the entries every half hour that you checked the cells without actually checking them. Certainly not right but I've been guilty of it. If someone was planning on offing him it would have long been done already. I feel real sorry for the guards who will be charged with a felony for falsifying official records and probably lose their jobs. Maybe they can use the sleep apnea defense that the Amtrak engineer got away with.
Enough with the stupid conspiracy theories.

Sleep apnea is a real thing, not something to "get away with". It's wrong to suggest otherwise.

I still think too many people benefit from Epstein's death for the possibility of foul play not to be considered.

Every detective I ever knew said the first thing they ask when starting a homicide investigation is,"who benefits?"

Here, the list of such people is full of individuals who have everything to lose. Everything. Just like Epstein himself did.

I agree that it's the most likely scenario. The second most likely is that Epstein paid the guards a lot of money to fall asleep.

Just playing devil's advocate here, a third party could also have paid the guards a lot of money to go to sleep.

Unlikely, but not impossible.

That wouldn't have gotten the third party into the cell, which is a zillion times more difficult than getting the guards to sleep.

But to even get to the outside of the cell door requires the cooperation of another half dozen people in addition to the two guards who were sleeping. Too complicated a conspiracy (though I understand that Trump claims Hillary has amazing criminal powers).

I think there's more to it, but.. In your view of it... Even if guards are routinely signing off without actually checking on the inmate I'd guess that in such a case with a high-profile person... They'd CYA and actually do the checks.

I think there's more to it, but..

How did the officials find out the two guards were sleeping? The answer is that there are checks and double checks, and all sorts of surveillance. A full-fledged conspiracy would have been incredibly unlikely.

I wonder about that.

Whitey Bulger's death at the hands of another inmate was suspicious as hell, too . Bulger somehow pissed off the staff at the prison where he was getting treated for his declining health. The next day, he was moved to a different prison known by inmates as "Misery Mountain", one of the most dangerous federal lockups in the country. The day after that, old, sick, and defenseless, Bulger was explaining his misdeeds in life to the Devil himself in Hell.

If the staff wants you dead, dead you will be. It's not too much of a stretch to imagine someone with enough power arranging things just so. I agree, however, that Epstein might very well have found a way to commit suicide. I'm just pointing out that prison inmates are far more vulnerable than is generally known. Epstein was a marked man the minute the FBI dragged him off the plane at Teterboro. That's a truth we know, too.

Actually believing he killed himself is no longer the "occam's razor" solution, way too many powerful people benefitted from this.

Suicides do not happen in this prison. This is the place that could keep El Chapo from offing himself.
One of the guards wasn't even a guard. Could have spiked his partner's drink so they'd be conveniently asleep while a couple assassins got to him.

NBC reports all was silent that morning.
CBS reports there were screams and shouting coming from his cell that morning, "Epstein breathe! breathe!" Like, who says someone's surname when trying to desperately revive him? Or, perhaps strangling him and covering up his screams with shouts making it sound like they're trying to revive him?

Not what Henry was talking about. He was talking about sneaking an outside assassin into the building.

And also probably quite difficult (not to mention that getting a cell mate in never happened). You have to bribe the dishonest people without letting the honest people know you've done it.

They called off suicide watch earlier and moved his cellmate out less than a day before he suicided.

And an assassin could have come in as a transfer, janitor, well dressed lawyers, or really anything. Epstein was against literal billionaires. You don't think they could slip valid credentials into the computer system for a completely unrelated thing (to avoid suspicion) and just wandered, clearing their tracks afterward? Used an NSA backdoor? Cloned an RFID badge? Hell if you make the not-entirely-far fetched assumption that Russia/China/North Korea already has us hacked a perpetrator could use their access, he had dirt on frickin Prince Andrew and the Saudis!
