Thank you Elon Musk

Posted by alm on Tue Mar 11 11:35:01 2025

I filed our federal tax return early. I wanted to get it in before a possible government shutdown on March 15th.

We owed money, and I specified that the money should be withdrawn from our checking account on March 7th.

Well, here it is March 11th, no money withdrawn, no one to call at the IRS to ask about it.

I suppose if it doesn't get withdrawn by April 14th, I'll just pay again and hope they don't ever find the original request. But it's going to waste a lot of my time.

If you owed $$$, why didn't you wait until April to file?

I don't know for sure if the IRS will be functioning in April.

It turns out that maybe they're not functioning even now.

Thats not your problem. You file, you got a record of filing, you've done everything you are supposed to do before April 15, you're off the hook.

No I'm not off the hook because I haven't paid what I owe them, even though I followed the process I was supposed to follow in order to pay them.

How can you be held responsible when you signed your return, agreed to make payment & instructed the IRS to debit your bank account and they didn't? Where are you in the wrong here?

You're replying to the stupidest post ever made ever.

Because the IRS was always known for it's good call times and lots of answers (see old subchat posts about more than half of their calls going unanswered during the Obama years).

Musk doesn't run the IRS.

Yes, but we must blame Elon for things that have been ongoing for many many years, and things that everyone knows and complains about.
