Oatmeal revisited Photos

Posted by Avid Reader on Mon Feb 3 08:11:26 2025

We all should consume it! Some do. Some here really need it.

I accidently bought "Steel Cut Quick Oats", I don't like the texture.

I am cheap, so I blend the CUT with the regular as I mix in some cinnamon.

Beware about adding dried fruit, it may be loaded with sugar if you are diabetic!
Fresh fruit like bananas or sliced fresh apples is less sugarified.

Alas since childhood, the smell of hot cereals including oatmeal and cream of wheat cause me to gag, wretch and choke. I even find your photo sickening. If we are ever having breakfast together and you order that swill, please do not become offended if I move away from you.

I eat oatmeal all the time.

Not sure if a diabetic should even without added sugar or dried fruit.

Good tip.

Apparently oatmeal by itself can help the body regulate blood sugar. Why didn't you look that up, #37?

I use the Quick grits.

I add butter and SHARP Grated Cheese.

When I do have them, it's a double portion!

They go great with eggs, any style.

I prefer over easy, slightly runny. Coarse ground pepper and salt.

I actually tried grits at a crackerbarrel for the first time. I actually liked them.

No self respecting southerner uses instant grits. They take pride in their grits.

Once my youngest son tried grits he was hooked.

He now thinks he's the expert on how to make grits with sharp cheddar cheese.

I saw "My Cousin Vinny" too.

My clock is winding down, I don't want to waste time sitting on the Poarch waiting for my grits.

If sugar is your concern, bananas are loaded with sugar. It's a starchy carb. It's one reason why it's almost always an ingredient in weight gain shakes.

When I eat oatmeal daily, it lowers blood pressure. Also helps with weight loss for a variety of reasons.

I soak them in water overnight in ACV or lemon juice.

What are grits comprised of?

What Are Grits?
Grits are made from dent corn, which has a softer and starchier kernel than other corn varieties. The mature kernels are processed to remove the outer hull, dried, and then ground into smaller bits.

The most basic—and perhaps most common—way to prepare grits is to boil them, then combine them with butter and milk. However, the Southern staple is often "dressed up" with cheeses, spices, sauces, meats, seafoods (shrimp and grits, anyone?), and veggies.

Grits vs. Polenta vs. Cream of Wheat
If grits are just ground corn kernels, then what the heck is polenta? Well, it's basically Italian grits. The difference is that grits are made from white corn (or hominy), while polenta is made from yellow corn. In a pinch, you can substitute polenta for grits and vice versa—just be aware that polenta has a coarser texture, so your results will be slightly affected.
