I've said this before, but I don't blame - not completely, at least - New York's officials and civic leaders for having an eggs-in-one-basket economy before Covid. Basing the economy on people working in Manhattan office buildings worked reasonably well and did not appear to be a risky idea. Working from home had been around for many years, and even though technology had been making it more and more feasible it had remained fairly uncommon prior to March 2020. It was certainly no threat to the commercial office building market or to local commerce that served office workers. And then boom, the whole world change

I'm surprised Cooper Union owned the land! I wonder if they're going to get the money owed to them from RFR Holdings.

I like looking at the old photographs. The amount of commerce and business on one block of buildings, with everything that you ACTUALLY NEED, is amazing. I often wonder about the economic impact of such streets in 1924.
Who knew converting everything, including shops, to useless (and made up) business services and bullcrap non-value enhancing jobs would fail.
good riddance. As much as I like the historic buildings though.
