On the other hand (as S-P notes), are you going to hire Oswald to kill Kennedy months in advance (he got a gun well before 11/22), on the off chance that Kennedy would pass by Oswald's place of work in a motorcade?

Definitely not The Mob as a whole. But (random possibility), what about some mobster whose girlfriend JFK had taken advantage of?

I agree the best support for Oswald as pure loner is that it was total chance that JFK would ride a motorcade past Oswald's place of work. He'd bought the gun to try to kill the "fascist" general; here was a chance to kill the "fascist" anti-Cuban president.

Random malcontent assassinations are more common. Guiteau, Czolgosz, Zangara, Hinkley, and Bremer were all just random idiots.

Yeah, I included Bremer. Did you know that Travis Bickle was based on him? Given that he inspired Hinckley, it counts.

John Wilkes Booth was the only conspiracy guy.

Having been there last September, I can say that I don't believe the prevailing story. I saw the 6th floor window from where the shots allegedly came from. I saw the highway entrance where the motorcade was hit and there is no way a bolt action rifle could have been fired 3 times with such accuracy at a moving target.

Have you ever been down there? From the window where Oswald shot from was not all that far from the motorcade. Photography distorts the real distance, making it seem further away.

The attempt to kill Walker is also very interesting.

Oswald told his wife that he missed Walker and took the bus home. Witnesses said a car left the scene. Police were looking for a shooter and getaway car.

One theory is that Oswald was part of a conspiracy with the Russians. Shooting Walker was a test he failed and they severedties with him. But he was crazy and went ahead with the plan to kill Kennedy.

Another theory is that Walker staged his assassination attempt. That it was done to make it look like communists were a violent threat.

I think Oswald had a driver get him there and back home.

The trip to Texas was planned, but the venue wasn’t decided until the last minute, and therefore the motorcade route wasn’t decided.

The motorcade route you can pretty much guess and be close and mostly accurate.

Looking at the skyline of Dallas in 1963, it's amazing how unimpressive the skyline is.

It's highly unlikely someone like Oswald pulled this off and gets killed by a nightclub owner on live television.

The grouping was too close together for be fired from a bolt action rifle. If you doubt me, there are marks on the pavement where the motorcade was struck. It just seems inconceivable that the story is true.

No, you can’t, because it’s also about the order of the venues, and Kennedy wanted to use streets and Conally the expressway.

It’s highly unlikely that anybody conspired to do any of this. Conspiracy theories fall apart at the slightest scrutiny, and their proponents then have to go in deeper.

They are not too close to be fired from a bolt action. You can load multiple rounds into a bolt action, and a skilled gunman can very quickly release the spent rounds. The timing of the shots is well attested and is completely consistent with that.

Yep.

The Wikipedia article on Oswald says that the route was announced several days in advance, but Oswald only went back to his home in Irving (he stayed in a rooming house in Dallas during the week) on the morning of the 22nd and came back to Dallas with some "curtain rods."

So it sounds like last minute execution of a plan that couldn't have been put in place much earlier.

Looking at the whole thing statistically, there might have been hundreds of malcontents in the US who wanted to kill Kennedy and actually had the means to do it (a gun and training in using it), but no obvious opportunity. So for one of those hundreds to get incredibly lucky and have Kennedy announced in advance as passing by his place of work is not an unbelievable coincidence.

But there would have been far fewer active plots ("Here's some money, look for an opportunity) going on. And for one of those to have been presented with the opportunity that JFK was going to travel past the work location of a conspirator is a way greater coincidence.

IIRC JFK was supposed to have his car covered by a protective bubble because of the threat of rain in the area. At the start of the motorcade the skies cleared and the bubble was left off.

As I have mentioned many times on various forums, I recall reading in the Daily News a year or so before the assassination about an individual who fit Oswald’s profile perfectly. Somewhere stuck in a tiny article just before the sports section was a photo of a person described as a former Marine with his Russian born wife taken near Red Square in Russia. The article reported that the person in the photo had moved to Russia because he was tired of the “rat race” mentality in the US and wanted to live in a country more in line with his personal views. When the news media announced the background of the alleged assassin which fit almost perfectly with the description I had read about a couple of years earlier, It set off the bells in my head about that article and right away I put the 2 and 2s together. I still can’t figure out to this day how and why the Daily News got and chose to print such an article especially since it was in a part of the paper that few people even read.

Something that a lot of people seem to ignore is the possibility of LBJ’s part in any alleged conspiracy. It is known that LBJ wasn’t too happy about being selected as “second fiddle” to JFK but chose to accept the VP nomination anyhow. Now it does seem rather strange that JFK was killed in LBJ’s home state rather than any other random location, so if opportunity presented itself anything is possible. There are still people alive who could be harmed by release of certain info concerning the assassination and I suspect that when the last person who could ever be harmed by release of such info is long gone, the true facts will be revealed.
