That happens so rarely that considering that is penny wise, pound foolish. So if I spend an extra 15 minutes stopping on a road trip, that’s a hell of a lot less than the total amount of time wasted at gas stations every single other day.

And piss breaks take longer than fueling stops anyway, so that it’s even less of a time sink. Especially lunch stops; I don’t eat while driving.

I agree about gas stations. Thats why i got a hybrid with a 13 gallon tank and a range of 475-500 miles on a tank of gas. Then its 3-4 minutes to refuel and I'm gone. Time is money after all.

And money is money too. If I spend the same for gas as I spend on electricity, I’d have to buy a car that goes over 100 MPG.

And 3-4 minutes is still longer than 0.

Exactly. In some ways, EVs have merit but to say that they are better in every way means that you believe having slave children mining the rare earth materials in 3rd world nations to make the batteries is better than adults being paid to build batteries in US factories

They do have shortcomings, which are far outweighed by the shortcomings of ICE.

A big supplier of lithium is Chile, which isn’t a third world country. Yes, there’s cobalt and that comes from Congo, but nothing is perfect.

OTOH, oil is produced in countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Venezuela and Russia. The United States produces oil too, but it can easily survive the collapse of the oil market, and would benefit from an oil crash, those countries can’t and won’t.

That's interesting. I left a heater running in a Tesla with no one inside for 6+ hours once, it only used almost 2% of it's battery. Much less than a gashole would use.

But I guess the same source that tells me there's a such thing as a balestein would have to be true.

I also had an Electroglide with a 5 gallon tank but the Sportster was more fun to ride. I haven't ridden in about 8 years (except bicycles). I'm thinking of getting new tires, a battery, and having the fluids changed in the Sportster to go out again, but I think I'm getting too old.

I just hit 70 yrs old. I had my first car accident in over 20 years a year ago (last January) and got me thinking I'm not infallable and what if it was my Harley. But the Sportster 1200 isn't too heavy and I got rid of the dresser, so I'm still thinking of fixing it up, maybe just for the neighborhood like going to the store and back. Until the temperature went under 45 degrees I've been riding my bicycle (pedaling) 20 plus miles EVERY day for exercise. I bought a Jeep Wrangler thinking I can take the top down as a convertable but with a Wrangler it's a royal pain in the ass with velcro and zippers. It takes like 15 minutes so I never do it!!

On My last trip to LI from Pittsburgh last Thanksgiving, (I-79, I-80 appx 500 miles), EV sightings were rare. This just reinforces my opinion that for long distance travel with minimal time consuming stops, ICE cars still rule the road and will until something is done either about increasing the range on a charge coupled with an expanded infrastructure to handle charging needs, assuming that straight EV sales will take off similar to how hybrid sales have taken off.

We're talking about EVs taking over in the next 15 to 20 years.

That's plenty of time for high speed charging stations, that can give you 200 miles in 10-15 minutes, to proliferate.

Meanwhile, for people in S-P's situation (can charge at home, don't take long trips to obscure places), the infrastructure is already fine.
