Here's the full text of NYS(b) In addition, upon all roadways, any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic, or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway Here's a link to the Uniform Vehicle Code (UVC) that points to the same rule. You can see how NYS has copied the UVC almost entirely. https://iamtraffic.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/UVC2000.pdf#page=148 Here's the UVC text: (b) Upon all roadways any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic, or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road, alley, or driveway. The intent of this subsection is to facilitate the overtaking of slowly moving vehicles by faster moving vehicles. You will notice that the bold and underlined text is missing from the NYS rule. |

Presumably at some point you changed lanes to get into that turning lane.To me turn signals are a safety feature. Driving is a complicated endeavor that can be dangerous when performed poorly or with malfunctioning equipment. I'm a defensive driver that stays very aware of what's happening around me. Other drivers using their signals makes that easier and keeps all of us safer. People that consider themselves to be good drivers, yet they don't signal aren't as good a driver as they think even if they have NASCAR level skills. |

It often helps to signal even there because there may be pedestrians who don't have the same view of all the road signs and it wouldn't be so obvious to them. The worst is the pulling out into an intersection, stopping for oncoming traffic, and then finally signaling a left turn. You would think this problem would resolve itself since the perpetrators have to at some point become the victims of it too when someone else does it and learn their lesson, no? |

Two unmarked cars could write up enough summonses to cover the cops salaries. Just riding around my neighborhood during midday, the local cops could cash in & teach the masses a good (and expansive) lesson. |

This will help make sure that the overtake lanes are moving faster than the lane to the right, which allows easier overtaking and safer lane changes. |

I can’t say that I blame them. I do not like being behind other cars on the entrance ramp, they cruise down the ramp at 30mph, do not attempt to accelerate to highway speed, they wait until the entrance ramp reaches the right lane to put on their signal and assess highway conditions/openings. They are truly “unaware drivers” as the defensive driving courses indicate. |
