I just love it when drivers change lanes on the highway and don't use them; even worse they use them while in the process of changing lanes. You are supposed to signal your intention BEFORE you make the move!Tangent: one NY note concerning I495.....the Long Island Expy. I'm sick and tired of motorists illegally crossing the HOV lane buffer in Nassau & Suffolk Counties and constantly get away with it. Those lines are not there for decoration. Finally, what's the deal at the rest area by Exit 53? Suffolk Police Car #903 has been sitting there for years. |

Then you can't move right because there's no gap to your right to move into. It's more important to pay close attention to what's in front of you rather than to concentrate on trying to move right again. |

But if everyone only used the right lane for passing, people wouldn’t move into the right lane that’s not moving because it would serve no purpose. All the time I see people move into the left lane for what is obviously no reason, like they think the left lane is the long distance lane. |

Obviously it’s impractical to move out of the left lane if none of the lanes are moving, but if it were common practice not to cruise in the left lane, a lot of problems would be mitigated. |

I see a lot of that out here. If they are not actually driving, there texting at a red light & ignore the light change. If your behind one of these knuckleheads, you have to blast them with the horn to remind them that they are driving. If I was a cop, I could fill out a summons book daily. |

Posted by Stephen Bauman on Mon Feb 27 13:38:18 2023, in response to Re: Turn Signals, posted by Spider-Pig on Mon Feb 27 12:45:59 2023. New York does adhere to this rule. VTL § 1120(b).(b) In addition, upon all roadways, any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic, or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway. Please note the bold and underlined passage. The provision for traveling in the left lane is that the driver be proceeding at the "normal speed of traffic". The left lane is not for the sole purpose of passing, which it is in most other states. |

Posted by N6 Limited on Mon Feb 27 17:00:42 2023, in response to Re: Turn Signals, posted by Bill from Maspeth on Mon Feb 27 12:17:47 2023. The HOV issue I’ve observed , it appears to be rooted in the other topic in this thread, Left Lane cruisers.1) Left lane cruisers causing a rolling blockade with middle and right lane drivers, while the HOV and the highway ahead is open. 2) HOV lane is the super Left lane, and yet there are motorists that cruise into the lane and cause a conga line, many times with the main lanes moving faster. Now, if those issues, the actual CAUSES of the buffer crossing, is addressed, then the crossings will subside. |
