|
Posted by Train Dude on Thu Aug 18 21:46:51 2022 I went to buy a new hybrid car this week. This was the dealers offer:MSRP. XXXXX.XX Base selling price +$1600 Retro: $1615 Dealer Defined fees $212.50 Sales tax XXXX.XX Tire management fee $12.50 Est DMV fees $249.00 So the dealer was asking more than $3400 above the MSRP for a vehicle that in a few weeks will be last years model. |

That's what the paperwork said. They ultimately made a more reasonable offer "if I'd pay the first month finance fee up front." Laughable since I intended to pay cash. |

I paid the same when I got my RAV4. It's an environmental thing, tire fire pollution and all…everyone should support it. Sales tax on a car(I bought mine in Schenectady County, where it's 4%) is what it is. (Red-states love sales tax, they charge it on food.) Still runs up the bill. I paid cash, and told the dealer up front I planned to. It's a little different when you're retired. I got the deal I sought, yet the "hidden charges" did jack the bill to the limits. So I understand what he's getting at, but disagree about his complaint, all of it being simple reality. Just pay the bill, you'll get it back over time with 40+ mpg. |

It is a NY State fee:If you operate a tire service, including an automobile dealership or an auto repair shop, you must collect the $2.50 per tire fee on most new tires sold at retail. You must remit $2.25 for each tire sold when you file the waste tire management fee return. You keep 25 cents from each tire sold to cover your administrative costs. https://www.tax.ny.gov/bus/tire/wtm.htm#:~:text=The%20Environmental%20Conservation%20Law%20imposes,extended%20through%20December%2031%2C%202022. |

Speaking of Fords they really look like a piss poor choice for a new car, either gas or electric. They jacked up EVs likely knowing the consumer is getting the 7500 credit to go battery. Worse than the lawsuit going through the works over a fatality involving an older F150 rollover is the FORD TSB involving the hybrid Mavericks with engine oil leaks. Their fix was to drill vent and drain holes in hood and underbody shields to force air into the leaks and reroute the drips away from the exhausts which were resulting in major car fires. Probably something labor intensive and pricey like a rear main seal they won't fix unless car is off warranty and customer is a sucker. At least this should get fixed eventually as the anti pollution EPA will cry louder over oil dripping into the streets and sewers than NTSB would for a car driver busting into flames |

As far as color is concerned most of you know I work as a background extra and if they use our car in a scene (Mostly as a parked car on the street) they pay us an extra $37.50 and we get a free parking spot, otherwise I take the train. And I get more jobs that way as most background people live in Manhattan and have no cars. But they never use a white or red car and very rarely use an SUV. Check it out when you watch TV, you won't see any red or white cars parked on the street and very few SUV's. So when I buy my next new car it won't be white or red and will be a sedan.I really want a convertible but with the exception of the Mini Cooper and the VW New Beetle they're very expensive. The Mini is too small and I'll never buy Hitler's Jeep, the Beetle. I have a Jeep Wrangler which is convertible but with the removable windows and the zippers and velcro it takes a half hour to take the top down or put in babk!! |
