Your own Wikipedia link confirms that GBS as a clinical diagnosis was not used or widely known in the United States until after WWII, that is, until after Roosevelt died.Most historical accounts of FDR, including the FDR Museum, the White House Presidential archives, and the Federal Register, all concur that FDR had poliomyelitis, and this, along with hypertension and an acute CVA, were what ultimately killed him. GBS was a novel diagnosis not yet available to US physicians during the Roosevelt years, and in any case, as the symptoms of both diseases are very similar, we cannot speculate beyond what is actually known of FDR's medical history, Wiki notwithstanding. |

He’s old, yes, but is obviously still able to handle this job. His "slow speech"is part and parcel with being a stutterer. His thinking’s clear and sharp, this affliction is often seen in highly intelligent people. Being smart is not a disqualified here.So he got what is effectively a sports injury. This doesn't mean a thing, aside from the hassles in obtaining modern medical care (probably comes easy for one they’d clear the schedule for). |

My son works for the National Park service at the FDR museum in Hyde Park and all the literature, documentation, & displays indicate nothing else. I've been there myself.
